Reading

Reading is the foundation everything else stands on — and when it's hard, school gets hard everywhere. As a certified reading specialist, Susan builds skills systematically across the full reading picture: sounding words out accurately, reading smoothly enough for meaning to survive, and — the piece families notice most — actually understanding and remembering what was read.

If your student reads a page and can't tell you what it said, this is the place to start.

Writing

Many students have plenty to say — getting it onto the page is the struggle. Writing support focuses on the bridge between thinking and writing: organizing ideas, structuring them, and building the stamina and confidence to get from blank page to finished work.

Executive Function & Life Skills

Starting an assignment. Breaking a big project into pieces. Keeping track of materials, time, and priorities. Speaking up when something isn't working. These "skills behind the skills" are teachable — and for many neurodiverse learners they're the difference between capability and performance.

Through a behavior specialist's lens, Susan works on the routines, strategies, and self-advocacy that build genuine independence.

Literacy Assessments

Good instruction starts with knowing exactly where a learner is. Literacy assessments identify strengths, pinpoint specific needs, and translate directly into next instructional steps — so support begins in the right place instead of guessing.

IEP Support & Advocacy for Families

An IEP is only as powerful as a family's ability to understand and use it. As a certified special education teacher, Susan helps families decode what the document actually says, understand what services their child is entitled to, prepare for meetings, and advocate effectively — and helps them support the IEP's goals at home.
